Oral history interview with Helen Rucker and B. Wallace Rucker, Feb. 10, 1980.

Wallace Rucker talks about his maternal grandparents, David Kauffman and Hulda Harris Kauffman, and how they came from Berlin to Seattle. He claims that his mother was the first Jewish child born in Seattle. He explains that his father was Methodist-Episcopal and died when Wallace Rucker was a baby. Rucker feels that his father would have agreed with the Jewish education he received. He talks about the temples on Boylston Avenue and at Morris's Hall. He also discusses his World War I service and his career as a salesman. Helen Borenstein Rucker describes her education in Seattle and at finishing school in Washington, D.C. She describes accompanying her mother to work in the Settlement House, which was her mother's main interest. She discusses the two books she authored, "Cargo of Brides" and "Wolf Tree." She also describes her father's work for the Shelter House during World War I. Both she and her husband discuss the Temple de Hirsch congregation and its members.
